WINTER SNOW POLICIES: 01/14/2010

City of Oconto Falls Snow Removal Policy

To comply with State and City laws, the City will not plow or haul snow from parking lots, except lots owned by the City.  Snow from parking lots may not be pushed into the street.

Property owners must remove sidewalk snow within 24 hours after the storm.  If they don't, the City may remove it and bill the owner.  Sidewalk snow must be placed on private property unless there is no room (i.e. zero setback).

City ordinances provide that a property owner may not block the visual clearance triangle at any street intersection (A triangel measured 100 feet back from intersection).  Snow may not be piled higher than 2 1/2 feet above street level.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call City Attorney Larry Jeske at City Hall, 846-4505.

Larry Jeske

City of Oconto Falls Mailbox Replacement Policy

This policy addresses mailboxes and street side receptacles damaged as a result of City Street Department Operations.

If a mailbox or receptacle base is damaged by flying snow or slush, it will not be replaced by the City.  Any mailbox or base damaged by slush or heavy snow will be investigated by the Street Department Superintendent.

If a mailbox is physically hit and damaged by a snowplow or other piece of City Street Department equipment, it will be replaced with a metal or plastic box acceptable to the U.S. Postal Service.  Decorative or other types of ornamental mailboxes will not be replaced in kind.

Oconto Falls Street Superintendent
Terry Magnin
